First grade is a critically important year for learning to read, and we love walking arm-in-arm with learners to discover the wonderful world of print. The 1st Grade pod is a bundle of all academics. 1st grade learners have no other homework other than to read, read, read (even picture books) and especially with Mom and Dad!
Weekly Meeting (Homeroom): This is the most special time of the week! Our community comes together for Bible, prayer, calendar work (months, days, seasons, weather, counting, time vocabulary, etc.), show and tell, games, art, and other learning routines.
Math: No-fear math! Learners build a foundation of early math concepts such as counting, addition, subtraction, place value, money, and telling time.
Reading: This is the year! “First grade is one of the most important for a child on the road to reading, building on the foundation provided in kindergarten” (Shaywitz 223). After students have broken the reading code, the mechanics of reading are next. At the beginning of the year, first graders are ready to read and in a year, they are readers with a vocabulary of about 400 (Shaywitz 224).
Writing: Our “Super Sentence-Builders” program utilizes the Orton-Based Methodology to teach children the fundamentals of sentence construction and turn them into confident writers. From word formation to complex sentences, this program will give your child the tools they need to excel in writing.
Spelling: Instruction on spelling rules and patterns, helping all learners, especially those with dyslexia, build an understanding of how language works and how to apply it to their writing.
Vocabulary: By exposing learners to a wide range of vocabulary words and concepts, we can help expand their understanding of the world and become better readers.
Social Studies: Explore the lives of famous Americans, community helpers, and and introduction to geography.
Science: Learners discover our Creator’s world with an introduction to science concepts such as life cycles, parts of plants, sounds, the five senses, and the four seasons.
Yes! Yes! We are mission-minded organization and our love for the Lord and intense desire to glorify Him drive us to do what we do. We exist to see children come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ and then to grow in wisdom and knowledge so they can walk in a manner worthy of their calling. We want them to develop an authentic biblical worldview. Karen Lemons, the founder of Lemons-Aid, is fiercely protective of the mission and puts all teachers and staff through a rigorous application process. Our teachers have professional development in how to teach with from a biblical perspective.
Yes! All of our teachers have gone through background checks, identification verification, and have training on how to keep learners safe while teaching online. We teach our learners to keep their own personal identifying information private while online. All communication between teachers and students is copied or accessible to parents. We follow COPPA policies to protect young learners while on line. Classes are recorded for transparency with parents.
We have capped the classes to 6 learners. Our teachers have experience building relationships with each learner and making them feel special and loved.
To make it easy for parents, we include the cost of materials in your tuition and will send you everything you need.
Teachers offer helpful and frequent feedback to learners both on the work they do in class and for homework. This is done verbally, through video recordings, messages, and comments on Google docs. Our elementary learners do not receive traditional grades.
All classes are recorded and enrolled learners will have access to view those recordings. Refunds or credits are not provided.
Each semester is 13 weeks. We take a week off at Thanksgiving and two weeks off at Christmas. Spring Break is the week following Easter.
As we work with your child, if we think we need to do something more, we will let you know. We will give you various options and advice from things you can do at home, to additional group classes and tutoring. We want to see your child grow to love learning and to have success.
The enrollment process is quick and easy. You will follow the process below for each of your learners.
Your learner will be enrolled in each course. A few days before classes begin, you will receive a welcome letter with details on how to access the classroom. Your materials will be mailed to you before classes begin (if applicable)!
If you would like to pay for the entire year, you can do so at a discount. Just reach out to ask.
We have a very generous affiliate program where you can earn 10% referral bonuses from anyone you refer FOR LIFE. If someone enrolls in a semester ELA course that costs $545, you earn $54 in store credit. This can add up! Please note that the purchaser must have cookies turned on so we know they came from you.
If you live in a state that offers families ESA dollars (Education Savings Accounts), we are an approved vendor in multiple states. View our tuition help page for more information.
If you need help getting your charter school to pay for classes, contact us for support.
You can contact us with more questions. We are happy to chat via email, text, or phone call. We can also pop onto a Zoom call to meet you and a group of friends.

Students meet live with the teacher and a group of students. The benefits of live courses are that students have interaction with a teacher and peers in a community. Longer (multi-day, semester, and subscription) courses offer them the ability to develop relationships with their teacher and peers while studying content that builds on previous learning such as longer-range essays, projects, and assignments with teacher feedback.
Live courses can be a:
Teacher and learner are “synced” together for learning but not at the exact same moment like in a scheduled live class (the “a” in “asynchronous!”
These are courses that give students the flexibility to work when they can, but they still have deadlines and accountability with a teacher! Learners have a teacher getting to know them, guiding them and interacting with them, offering feedback, and grading their work. The course includes video lessons, interactive activities, assignments, and quizzes. As this is an asynchronous course, there are no live classes. These courses are less expensive and very flexible, while still having interaction with a teacher.
Async Courses can be:
Students have access to curriculum or lessons and can go through them at their own pace or “on demand.” There are no live classes and students complete the lessons independent of a teacher. The benefits of the online lessons are that they are the most affordable way to experience an excellent curriculum with videos, interactive material, and quizzes. For younger students, parents are able to direct them through the learning; for older students, they can often navigate the lessons on their own.
Think of the online curriculum as an interactive, video-based, online book!
Online curriculum can be a:
Students meet with a degreed and certified teacher in a one-on-one live session. Your teacher will help you with the school work you already have or will design a custom curriculum for you. Price varies by teacher and whether your instructor is designing a custom curriculum or if you are bringing your homework for some support.
Tutoring can be:
In a subscription course, students complete lessons and/or meet on a regular basis, based on the subscription terms. For example, they may meet once per week, every other week, or three times per week. Payment is made per subscription terms, and you are not charged for weeks you don’t meet.
A Micro Lesson is a super quick lesson on one skill or concept, usually comprising of a video lesson for 1-3 minutes and an interactive activity.
A one-time course is one live meeting. It’s a great chance to try out a teacher to see if it’s a good fit or learning something in a short live lesson.
In a multi-day course, students meet and/or complete work over a period of days or weeks. It is shorter than an entire semester.
In a semester course like this, students meet or complete work for an entire semester (half a school year) or trimester (a third of the school year).
In a yearlong course like this, students meet or complete work for an entire year.
Groups are like clubs where groups of learners gather with like-minded peers to study, explore, read, talk, or play. A book club, lifegroup, or gaming team are great examples!
This is a course for adults, who have a coach and course to support them in gaining knowledge or skills. For example, our Orton-Gillingham early literacy teachers coach moms and dads who are teaching their children with dyslexia how to read. Another example is when Mrs. Lemons coaches teachers with lesson planning or classroom management, or she coaches teacher entrepreneuers in their teaching business.
Coaching can be a mix of self-paced learning, cohorts, live, webinars, small group, or 1-1.
