The Schedule

First grade is a critically important year for learning to read, and we love walking arm-in-arm with learners to discover the wonderful world of print. The 1st Grade pod is a bundle of all academics. 1st grade learners have no other homework other than to read, read, read (even picture books) and especially with Mom and Dad!

Courses Details:

Weekly Meeting (Homeroom):  This is the most special time of the week! Our community comes together for Bible, prayer, calendar work (months, days, seasons, weather, counting, time vocabulary, etc.), show and tell, games, art, and other learning routines.

Math:  No-fear math! Learners build a foundation of early math concepts such as counting, addition, subtraction, place value, money, and telling time.

Reading: This is the year! “First grade is one of the most important for a child on the road to reading, building on the foundation provided in kindergarten” (Shaywitz 223). After students have broken the reading code, the mechanics of reading are next. At the beginning of the year, first graders are ready to read and in a year, they are readers with a vocabulary of about 400 (Shaywitz 224).

Writing: Our “Super Sentence-Builders” program utilizes the Orton-Based Methodology to teach children the fundamentals of sentence construction and turn them into confident writers. From word formation to complex sentences, this program will give your child the tools they need to excel in writing.

Spelling: Instruction on spelling rules and patterns, helping all learners, especially those with dyslexia, build an understanding of how language works and how to apply it to their writing.

Vocabulary: By exposing learners to a wide range of vocabulary words and concepts, we can help expand their understanding of the world and become better readers.

Social Studies: Explore the lives of famous Americans, community helpers, and and introduction to geography.

Science: Learners discover our Creator’s world with an introduction to science concepts such as life cycles, parts of plants, sounds, the five senses, and the four seasons.

The Support You Need, Just in Case

If your learner needs a little extra support, we have safety nets in place such as additional classes, tutoring, and self-paced courses to fill gaps or offer enrichment.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Yes! Yes! We are mission-minded organization and our love for the Lord and intense desire to glorify Him drive us to do what we do. We exist to see children come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ and then to grow in wisdom and knowledge so they can walk in a manner worthy of their calling. We want them to develop an authentic biblical worldview. Karen Lemons, the founder of Lemons-Aid, is fiercely protective of the mission and puts all teachers and staff through a rigorous application process. Our teachers have professional development in how to teach with from a biblical perspective.

Yes! All of our teachers have gone through background checks, identification verification, and have training on how to keep learners safe while teaching online. We teach our learners to keep their own personal identifying information private while online. All communication between teachers and students is copied or accessible to parents. We follow COPPA policies to protect young learners while on line. Classes are recorded for transparency with parents.

We have capped the classes to 6 learners. Our teachers have experience building relationships with each learner and making them feel special and loved.

To make it easy for parents, we include the cost of materials in your tuition and will send you everything you need.

Teachers offer helpful and frequent feedback to learners both on the work they do in class and for homework. This is done verbally, through video recordings, messages, and comments on Google docs. Our elementary learners do not receive traditional grades.

All classes are recorded and enrolled learners will have access to view those recordings. Refunds or credits are not provided.

Each semester is 13 weeks. We take a week off at Thanksgiving and two weeks off at Christmas. Spring Break is the week following Easter.

As we work with your child, if we think we need to do something more, we will let you know. We will give you various options and advice from things you can do at home, to additional group classes and tutoring. We want to see your child grow to love learning and to have success.

The enrollment process is quick and easy. You will follow the process below for each of your learners.

Your learner will be enrolled in each course. A few days before classes begin, you will receive a welcome letter with details on how to access the classroom. Your materials will be mailed to you before classes begin (if applicable)!

If you would like to pay for the entire year, you can do so at a discount. Just reach out to ask.
